1. Adoption Benefits Find a Home in Corporate America
While the medical bills from childbirth have long been covered by corporate health plans, it wasn’t long ago that employees who chose to adopt children were pretty much on their own in terms of coping with the cost. But today, companies that do offer adoption benefits are rapidly becoming the rule rather than the exception.
2. Adoption Programs Gaining Ground
The Calvert Group is one employer that kicks in money and time for employees who adopt children. But the take-up rate is low, so it costs companies little to increase employee morale and goodwill by offering this benefit.
3. House Passes Paid Parental Leave for Federal Employees
Government workers would be entitled to four weeks of paid leave within one year after childbirth or adoption of a child, under new legislation passed last week.
